Ed Hyman is Chairman and Founder of ISI Group, LLC (broker dealer) and ISI Inc. (funds management). He heads both ISI’s Economic Research Team and ISI’s Management Committee and is a member of ISI’s Investment Policy Committee. Ed has been ranked Institutional Investor #1 Wall Street economist for the past 33 years, and he was inducted into Institutional Investor’s inaugural 2011 All-America Research Team Hall of Fame.
Prior to forming both of these companies in 1991, he was Vice Chairman and a member of the Board of CJ Lawrence Inc., which he joined in 1972. He was an economic consultant at Data Resources, Inc. from 1969 to 1971. Ed graduated from the University of Texas in 1967 with a BS in Engineering and received an MBA from MIT in 1969.
Ed is currently a Board member of China Institute. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for The New York Public Library’s Financial Services Leadership Forum, as well as a member of Money Marketeers. He also serves on the Finance Committee of Bowdoin College.
Vinayak Singh is President of ISI Group and a member of both ISI’s Management Committee and ISI’s Investment Policy Committee.
Prior to joining ISI in 1994, Vinayak was a Portfolio Manager for Republic Western Insurance Company. In 2000, Vinayak was appointed Head of Sales, and in 2005 to Head of Sales and Trading.
Vinayak graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1989 and received an MIM from the American Graduate School of International Management in 1991.
Bill Foley is an Executive Managing Director, Head of Sales, and a member of both ISI’s Management Committee and ISI’s Investment Policy Committee.
Prior to joining ISI in 2010, Bill was Head of Global Capital Sales at Deutsche Bank, Head of Middle Market Sales at Morgan Stanley, and Head of Institutional Sales at Deutsche Bank. Prior to that, Bill worked with Ed and Nancy at CJ Lawrence for 7 years, eventually becoming Head of Sales.
Bill graduated from Villanova University in 1976.
Dave Memmott is an Executive Managing Director, Head of Trading, and a member of both ISI’s Management Committee and ISI’s Investment Policy Committee.
Prior to joining ISI in 2010, David worked at Morgan Stanley where he spent 14 years as a trader and 5 of those years as the Head of Morgan Stanley Equity Trading. He has also held positions at CSFB, Dillon Reed, and Merrill Lynch.
David graduated from the University of Northern Illinois in 1983.
Steve Killorin is an Executive Managing Director, ISI’s Chief Financial Officer, and a member of ISI’s Management Committee.
Prior to joining ISI in 2000, Steve worked at Sanford C. Bernstein for 1 year and Deutsche Bank for 5 years.
Steve graduated from Manhattan College in 1975 and holds a CPA certificate.
Barney Hallingby is a Consultant to ISI and a member of the Management Committee. Barney spent most of his business career at Hambrecht & Quist, where he headed the research, sales and trading departments. He was then was appointed Head Of Equities and Vice Chairman.
Prior to that, he was an institutional salesman at Wertheim and Paine Webber.
Barney graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Political Science in 1969, and received his MBA from Columbia Business School in 1972.
Jud Bailey is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s Oil Services Research Team. Jud has been recognized in The Wall Street Journal’s “Best on the Street” rankings and Bloomberg Magazine.
Prior to joining ISI, Jud was a Managing Director at Jefferies & Company with 12 years of experience in the oilfield services and drilling sector and has held positions in corporate banking at Societe Generale and NationsBank.
Jud graduated from Texas A&M University in 1995 with a BBA in Finance and is a CFA charterholder.
Sumit Dhanda is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s Semiconductor Research Team. Sumit has been a top ranked research analyst based on Institutional Investor’s (II) survey, most recently as a runner-up in the semiconductor sector in 2009.
Prior to joining ISI in 2012, Sumit was a Managing Director at Citadel Securities covering Semiconductors. Prior to that, Sumit was at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch for 9+ years where he was Senior Analyst and Sector Head for Semiconductors.
Sumit received a BS in Electrical Engineering from BITS, Pilani (India) in 1987, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Dartmouth College in 1991 and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1996.
Stephen East is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI's Homebuilding Research Team. Stephen has been most recently ranked runner-up in 2012's Institutional Investor rankings, while also being recognized by Starmine repeatedly as a top analyst, including #1 Earnings Estimator.
Prior to joining ISI in 2012, Stephen spent 2 years at Ticonderoga Securities as Managing Director, Director of Research, covering the Homebuilding and Building Products sectors and 5 years at Pali Capital and Susquehanna Financial Group as the Homebuilding and Building Products analyst. Prior to that, he was a buy side analyst and DOR at Fiduciary Asset Management after spending 10 years at A.G Edwards and 6 years at Monsanto.
Stephen graduated from Arkansas State University in 1986 with a BS in Finance, received an MBA from the University of Missouri in 1988, and is a CFA charterholder.
Greg Gordon is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s Power & Utilities Research Group. From 2004-2010 Greg was ranked one of the top analysts in his field by both Institutional Investor magazine and Greenwich Associates, most recently ranking runner up in the 2012 II rankings.
Prior to joining ISI in 2011, Greg led the Power & Utilities research effort at Morgan Stanley after spending almost 7 years at Citigroup, also building their coverage of the Power & Utilities. Prior to that, he covered the power industry at Goldman Sachs and CIBC World Markets, Inc. Additionally, he worked at Regulatory Research Associates, where he analyzed regulatory issues and developments in the electric, gas, and telecommunications industries.
Greg graduated from Drew University in 1992 and is a CFA charterholder.
Dick Hokenson is a Managing Director and heads ISI’s Global Demographics Research Team. Prior to joining ISI in 2012, Dick founded Hokenson & Company in 2002, an independent consulting firm. Dick spent most of his career at DLJ as their chief economist and then at CSFB, and was a pioneer in applying demographics to economics and markets.
Dick graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1967 and received an MA in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1973. Dick did his PhD research at New York University. Dick is a member of the International Union of Social Science Professionals, the Population Association of America, the Society of Labor Economists and is a trustee of the Population Reference Bureau (PRB). Dick is a member of the Executive Committee of PRB and chairs the Investment Committee.

Vijay Jayant is a Senior Managing Director, heads ISI’s Media Research Team and is ISI’s Cable & Satellite and Entertainment Analyst. Vijay has been an Institutional Investor ranked analyst for the past 11 years, was ranked #2 in the Cable & Satellite sector in 2009, and most recently ranking runner-up in 2012 II rankings.
Prior to joining ISI in 2011, Vijay was an analyst at Citadel. Prior to that, Vijay worked as a Senior Analyst and Sector Head for Media, Internet & Communications at Lehman Brothers/Barclays Capital. He has also held senior analyst positions at Morgan Stanley and Bear Stearns.
Vijay graduated from Clark University with a B.A. in Economics in 1992.
Brian Marshall is a Senior Managing Director, heads ISI’s Technology Team, and is ISI’s IT Hardware and Data Networking Analyst. Brian spent the last 15 years conducting fundamental research on the technology sector from both a buy-side and sell-side perspective. In 2010, StarMine recognized Brian as a top 5 overall earnings estimator out of 1,800+ publishing analysts.
Prior to joining ISI in 2011, Brian spent 3 years as a sell-side analyst at Gleacher covering IT Hardware and Data Networking sectors. Prior to joining Gleacher, Brian started a global technology long/short fund and partnered with Jefferies. Before that, he was employed at DE Shaw and oversaw the firm’s effort in the long/short technology sector while managing a substantial fund and team of investment professionals.
Brian graduated from Georgetown University in 1996 with a BS in Japanese.
Greg Melich is a Senior Managing Director, heads ISI’s Consumer Research Team, and is ISI’s Hardlines Analyst. Since 2005 he has been recognized as a leading hardlines retail analyst in multiple surveys including Institutional Investor, Greenwich Associates, Bloomberg, and the Financial Times/StarMine. Greg was most recently ranked #1 in Institutional Investor for Retail Hardlines in 2012.
Prior to joining ISI in 2010, Greg spent 16 years at Morgan Stanley in consumer-related research. Over 7 years, he built Morgan Stanley's European auto research effort, and was ranked Institutional Investor #1 auto analyst for 3 of those years. He returned to the US in 2003 to head Morgan Stanley's Global Retail Research Team.
Greg graduated from the College of William & Mary in 1992 and is a CFA charterholder.
John Mendelson is a Senior Managing Director and ISI’s Head of Technical Analysis. He has had one of the longest streaks in Institutional Investor having been ranked 19 times including a #1 ranking. Most recently, he was ranked #2 in the 2012 II rankings.
Prior to joining ISI in 2011, John spent 2 years at Potomac Research Group as Senior Vice President and Head of Market Analysis. Prior to joining Potomac, John spent 7 years at Schwab Capital Markets as Vice President of Market Analysis. Before Schwab, he spent over a decade at Morgan Stanley and Dean Witter as Head of Market Analysis.
John is a graduate of Princeton University.
Ross Muken is a Senior Managing Director, head of ISI’s Healthcare Services & Technology Research Team, and covers the Life Science Tools & Diagnostics | Healthcare Technology & Distribution sectors. He has been ranked by Institutional Investor #2, Greenwich Associates #4, Thomson Starmine #1, Forbes #2, and Bloomberg for his insightful fundamental research and highly accurate financial modeling.
Prior to joining ISI in 2012, Ross spent 7 years at Deutsche Bank Securities, most recently as a Managing Director and head of the Healthcare Services & Technology Research Team. Prior to that, Ross spent 3 years at Thomas Weisel Partners. Ross began his career as a member of the Banc of America Securities Mergers and Acquisitions Group.
Ross graduated magna cum laude from Boston University’s School of Management in 2001.
Robert Ottenstein is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s Global Beverages team.
Prior to joining ISI in 2012, Robert headed investor relations for Anheuser-Busch InBev, shortly after InBev’s acquisition of Anheuser-Busch. Before joining AB-InBev, Robert was Managing Director in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and for many years an II-ranked specialty chemical analyst as well as the global sector leader for the firm’s global basic materials.
Robert received his undergraduate degree from Swarthmore, a BA/MA in PPE at Oxford, and received his MBA from Stanford.
David Raso is a Senior Managing Director, heads ISI’s Industrials Research Team, and is ISI’s Machinery Research Analyst. He has been Institutional Investor #1 machinery analyst for the past 12 years. David was inducted into Institutional Investor’s inaugural 2011 All-America Research Team Hall of Fame.
Prior to joining ISI in 2008, David spent 8 years at Citigroup as a Managing Director.
David graduated from Wesleyan University in 1992 and received an MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business in 1995.
Omar Saad is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s Luxury, Apparel & Footwear team. He is consistently rated as one of top consumer analysts on Wall Street and was recently voted the #1 Apparel & Footwear analyst by Institutional Investor magazine, which also recognized him as one of the leading Specialty Retail analysts. He has also been selected in the past to Forbes Magazine’s Dazzling Dozen list of "blue chip" analysts with the best multi-year track record for stock picking and earnings estimation on Wall Street.
Prior to joining ISI in 2011, Omar spent 6 years at Credit Suisse building a top-rated franchise known for its unique, global brand approach to the sector. Omar has covered the Apparel & Footwear sector since 2002 and recently added Luxury Goods and the Softline Retail sector to his coverage universe. Prior to Credit Suisse, Omar worked for 3 years on a top-ranked retail team at Lehman Brothers.
Omar graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1995 with a BBA in Accounting and holds a CPA certificate. Omar received his MBA from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2002 after five years as a consultant with Andersen in Washington D.C.
Steve Sakwa is a Senior Managing Director and head of ISI’s Real Estate Research Team. He has been an Institutional Investor ranked REIT analyst for the past 9 years, and has been ranked #1 for 4 of the last 5 years.
Prior to joining ISI in 2009, Steve spent 13 years at Merrill Lynch, 9 years as a Managing Director, 9 years as a Senior US REITs Analyst, and 2 years as Global Property Coordinator. Prior to that, he spent 2 years at Morgan Stanley.
Steve graduated from the University of Michigan in 1989 and received his MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business in 1993.
Mark Schoenebaum is a Senior Managing Director, heads ISI’s Health Care Research Team and is ISI’s Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals-Major Analyst. He has been ranked Institutional Investor #1 Biotechnology analyst for the past 8 years. In 2012, his first year competing in the category, Mark was also ranked by Institutional Investor as a top 3 Pharmaceuticals/Major analyst. In addition, Mark has been highly ranked in the Greenwich Associates survey for several years.
Prior to joining ISI in 2010, Mark spent 2 years at Deutsche Bank as a Managing Director and Senior Biotechnology Analyst. Prior to that, Mark held a similar position at Bear Stearns.
Mark graduated from Indiana University with highest distinction in 1996 with a BA and received an MD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2000.
Stan Shipley is a Managing Director and economist for ISI and is responsible for short-term economic estimates and analysis.
Prior to joining ISI in 2004, he was a senior economist at Merrill Lynch. From 1983 to 1997, Stan was a senior economist and equity strategist at Lehman.
Stan graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1976.
Oscar Sloterbeck is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s Company Surveys Team. Oscar is also a member of ISI’s Investment Policy Committee.
Prior to joining ISI in 2000, Oscar worked in the economics group at JPMorgan Investment Management.
Oscar graduated from the College of William & Mary in 1997 and is a CFA charterholder.
Donald Straszheim is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s China Research Team. Donald has been a long-time macro economist on Wall Street and, more recently, a China specialist.
Prior to joining ISI in 2009, Donald operated his own China focused economic consultancy, Straszheim Global Advisors. He was Vice Chairman of Roth Capital Partners, spearheading its China initiative for 2 years. Before that, Donald was President of the Milken Institute. Prior to that, Donald served as Global Chief Economist at Merrill Lynch where he was an Institutional Investor ranked economist for 10 consecutive years. Earlier he worked at Wharton Econometrics, Weyerhaeuser Company, and IDS.
Don received a BS, an MS, and a PhD all from Purdue University in 1963, 1967, and 1971, respectively.
Doug Terreson is a Senior Managing Director, heads ISI’s Energy Research Team, and is ISI’s Integrated Oil Analyst. He has been ranked Institutional Investor’s #1 or #2 integrated oil analyst 13 times, has been a member of the All-America Research Team 16 times, and most recently was ranked #2 in 2012.
Prior to joining ISI in 2009, Doug led the Global Energy Research Group at Morgan Stanley, where he covered Integrated Oil as well as the Refining and Marketing sector. He was also responsible for the firm’s global forecast for crude oil and refined products and Energy portfolio strategy. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Doug was at Putnam Investments, where he managed the firm's energy mutual fund. Before that, he was an engineer with Schlumberger on the Gulf Coast of the US.
Doug received his BS in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State in 1984 and received an MBA from Rollins College in 1989.
Ian Weissman is a Managing Director and head of ISI’s Gaming & Lodging Research Team. Prior to joining ISI in 2009, Ian spent 4 years at Merrill Lynch working as a Senior Director on their Institutional Investor ranked US REITs team and 7 years at UBS as a REITs analyst.
Ian graduated from Boston University in 1994 and received an MBA from the University of Rochester Simon Business School in 1999.
Bill Whyman is a Senior Managing Director and heads ISI’s Tech Strategy Research Team.
Prior to joining ISI in 2006, Bill was Co-Founder and President of Precursor. Bill led Precursor's research team which, in 2004 and 2005, was an Institutional Investor ranked technology and telecom independent research provider. Bill also worked on the White House National Economic Council and at McKinsey & Co.
Bill graduated from Cornell University in 1986 with additional undergraduate studies at Oxford University and received an MPA from the Princeton University Woodrow Wilson School in 1989.
Jon Wolff is a Senior Managing Director and head of ISI’s Oil & Gas Exploration & Production (E&P) research team. Jon was the #1 ranked analyst in the E&P sector in the most recent Institutional Investor All America research poll having been consistently ranked in the poll for the past five years.
Jon had a brief stint on the buy-side in 2012 before returning to ISI this past January. Before joining ISI, Jon was a Managing Director Credit Suisse where he headed the Global Energy Research team while covering the E&P sector.
Before joining Credit Suisse in August 2005, Jon was a Director in the energy equity research group at Wachovia Securities covering both the Exploration & Production and Coal sectors. His sixteen years of energy equity research experience also include analyst positions at Dresdner Bank and Smith Barney.
